It's often said that British people are obsessed with the weather. Personally, I regularly check the weather in the places I know I'm going to be and, out of interest, check the forecast for places I know I'm not going to be (though wish I was in or could visit soon). I like a forecast that runs 7-10 days out though I know that forecasts for times further into the future are less reliable than those upcoming in the next few hours. Regardless, wouldn't it be nice to be able to reliably predict the weather a year from today?
So then I was thinking about how far forward I look in my own life. If I plan ahead for the next 7-10 days, I know I have a great tactical plan that will get me some successes (if I follow through and deliver to the plan), but it's too short term to be effective in planning for my life. I know I don't want to map out my next twenty years because I'll miss those golden opportunities that I just couldn't foresee, but I do need some clarity in what the next 1-5 years might look like so I can make sure I'm achieving something each week that will support my longer term goals. After all, time flies (whether you are having fun or not) and before you know it another year has flown by.
